Another aurora event that was missed by the majority as most viewers had already headed to bed. Overnight 26/27 April 2024 and not that far away from the endless daylight of the summer months this was noteworthy as all our main Aurora cameras had reasonable skies. It actually could be seen from sunset until sunrise but I think the hour I have captured here does it justice.
This time purple and green were the main colours as the aurora did seem be quite far north initially but peaked around 1am local time with an almost full frame left/right and top/bottom.
I have watched many auroral displays over the years and this one got my attention as the ‘pillars’ or vertical rays were so strong and stable for so long. Sometimes I thought I was watching a frozen frame but then I realised it was actually real and live. Impressive - yes; Memorable; certainly
Our experimental HD camera at Eshaness Lighthouse had enough of the twilight to allow the cliffs to be visible and the lighthouse illuminated the area without interfering with the auroral curtain backdrop.
Remember you can use the scrub-bar, the x4 playback in the player settings or just watch it all unfold in realtime.
